In order to guarantee that you are working with the correct cell line it is important to perform cell line authentication. The test is carried out for human cell lines by using the Promega GenePrint 24 System kit which amplifies 23 STR loci plus Amelogenin for gender determination. The STR profile is being analyzed using the GeneMapper IDX software and compared to the published database. The number of shared alleles between the tested sample and the published database aid determine whether your cell line is indeed the cell line in question or has profile characteristics which indicate a change, contamination or misidentification.
